About this Event
Reflections on Balance, Choice, and Empowerment
Join us for this special session with Dr. Alaa Nasief, offering a thoughtful exploration of the realities facing Muslim women today. The discussion examines the demands of multiple roles, the pressure to make achievements, and shifting notions of empowerment. The discussion traces the intellectual, economic, and cultural roots of these dynamics, and their impact on women, families, and society, and culminates in a return to the Qur’anic balance in understanding success, choice, and priorities.
Key Themes:
Women Today: Navigating Competing Roles:
How has women’s lives changed as roles and expectations have multiplied—and success has become associated with the ability to manage them all?
How Did We Get Here? Examining the Roots of the Contemporary Model
An exploration of the intellectual, cultural, and economic shifts that have reshaped ideas about women, work, success, and empowerment
Beyond the Surface: What Has This Model Produced?
From market economies and GDP measures to the value assigned to paid and care work—and from economic empowerment to its hidden costs for women, families, and society.
Restoring Balance: From “How Can I Do Everything?” to “What Does Allah Ask of Me Now?” Returning to the Qur’anic vision of humanity and womanhood, redefining empowerment, success, and choice through the lens of servitude, trust, priorities, and ultimate purpose.
