رعاية: لكلّ امرأة دورٌ في عمارة الأرض
Ri’aya (رعاية), meaning “care” in Arabic, reflects the values of support, stewardship, and collective responsibility that lie at the heart of our community.
Inspired by these principles, the Ri’aya Young Adult Stewardship Program started as a two-week capacity-building program for young Muslim women. The goal is to provide them with a deeper understanding of Islam, its history, and current global challenges. Through intellectual exchange, mentorship, and capacity development, the program offers young Muslim women the learning and tools needed to think critically, analyze contemporary trends, and confidently address challenges that impeded their current and future participation in local and global society.
"To be a young Muslim woman in this present world means you have to have a lot of resilience."
RI’AYA YOUNG ADULT STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM, brings young Muslim women together to study Islamic ethics, Muslim history, and the challenges of the present moment through workshops, lectures, and mentorship.
We filmed alongside the participants throughout the two-week program, in classes and workshops, and sat down with them once the coursework was under way, some just days before it ended. We asked what they had come looking for and what they were taking with them. Their answers, gathered in the film at the end of this piece, keep returning to the same questions: who gets to tell our story, what success should mean, and what each of us is responsible for.
Hold on to this identity, that is my identity, that has been misrepresented.
We have so many societal pressures working against us, but we have to strive. We have to really refine our own character.
Being a woman is a gift for me, and that’s all I can think about. Alhamdulillah, I’m so blessed. I’m so privileged to be a young Muslim woman in today’s society.
Something that motivates me when I move forward is seeing Muslim women around me, encouraging me to learn more.
“I'm trying to build a world where everybody feels welcome, especially in religious spaces.”
