About this Event

Join us for this special lecture with Dr. Heba Ezzat, exploring the defining features of Islamic civility and its future. Amid escalating wars and conflicts in our world, characterized by some as a “clash of civilizations,” including the ongoing genocide in Gaza, a war threatening the security of the Arabian Gulf, and signs of renewed hostilities in the Balkans, India, and elsewhere, discussions of civility and human flourishing are giving way to discourses of confrontation, resistance, and mobilization.

Despite the importance of these movements, this lecture seeks to renew attention to the meaning and importance of Islamic civility itself. By examining its core values, defining features, and historical expressions, we recover an Islamic and ethical framework through which acts of brutality and genocide are condemned. More importantly, this framework guides us in carrying forward our responsibilities of trust and stewardship in all circumstances of our shared life on earth.
