True purification of the heart begins with knowing the One who created it. In this two-day workshop, participants will explore how deepening their knowledge of Allah, His Names, Attributes, and relationship with His servants, becomes a foundation for tazkiyah.
Through reflection and discussion, the workshop will examine how a stronger connection with Allah transforms the heart, nurtures sincerity, and supports lasting spiritual growth, while offering practical insights for cultivating a more conscious and purposeful relationship with Him in everyday life.

University is a season of growth, important decisions, and discovering who you are becoming. Along the way, you may find yourself navigating uncertainty, balancing competing priorities, wondering what comes next, and trying to bridge the gap between good intentions and meaningful action.
This retreat offers a dedicated space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most while building meaningful connections and a sense of sisterhood with others navigating the same stage of life. Through guided discussions, interactive activities, and personal reflection, you will explore how to make thoughtful decisions, approach uncertainty with tawakkul (trust in Allah), manage your time and priorities with intention, and develop the character and practical skills needed to navigate university life with confidence and purpose.
Led by Dr. Jinan Yousef and Elizabeth Wood, the retreat brings together complementary perspectives on spiritual grounding and personal development, inviting you to reflect on the relationship between effort and trust, intention and action, and how your daily choices can align more closely with the values and aspirations you hold.

In Islamic tradition, physical health has been closely intertwined with mental health. The most prominent testimony to this connection is the book Masalih al Abdan wa al Anfus (The Sustenance of Bodies and Souls) by Abū Zayd al Balkhī, (d. 322 AH/943 CE). It is the first work to move the discussion of the human soul from the realm of philosophy and ethics into the domain of medicine and applied sciences, presenting an Islamic model of preventive healthcare that encompasses the soul, the body, the environment, and ethics. The first to bring this scientific legacy to light in modern times was Dr. Mahmoud Masri, through his contemporary critical edition of the book published by the World Health Organization. His work combines his research specialization in the history of science with his professional expertise in medicine. This reading of Masalih al Abdan wa al Anfus aims to explore the benefits of this valuable work and its contemporary applications. The program is based on textual readings of selected passages, followed by analytical explanation, comparisons with modern knowledge in the fields of mental and physical health, as well as related social and environmental sciences, and a summary of practical applications.
This program is part of Al-Mujadilah’s strategic theme on the Islamic social vision. It consists of 40 online sessions, beginning with 13 this year and continuing through next year.
